November 5th is a big date for us at CBD by Better Days. Not only is it a day for fireworks, but it marks the official anniversary of our brand—and this year, we’re celebrating our 6th Birthday!
Six years of growth, six years of learning, and six years of bringing better days to our valued customers. In the lead-up to this milestone, we wanted to take a moment to look back at where it all began. This isn’t just a business story; it’s a personal journey born from necessity, driven by curiosity, and built brick-by-brick with passion right here, becoming a staple for CBD Durham.
From Recovery to Research
The journey to creating CBD by Better Days started not in a boardroom, but on a recovery couch. Following major back surgery that left me off work for more than six months, I was faced with a long and challenging rehabilitation. Critically, I have never trusted or wanted to rely on pharmaceutical products, and this challenge forced me to look for natural, alternative paths to wellness.
At the very same time, a friend had relocated to the USA. They called me with news that felt like a glimpse into the future: “CBD is everywhere out here! People are going mad for it.” I knew the UK was often years behind the curve on such trends, and with my background in catering, my ultimate dream would have been a cannabis café—an idle vision, perhaps, but one that showed my desire to be at the forefront of natural wellness.
I quickly realised that while the café was a distant dream, CBD was an achievable step in the right direction. It was a new frontier, and I was determined to explore it.
I began to research and personally use CBD, starting with small amounts and trying different formats. My very first attempt to enter the market was with CBD sweets—a charming idea that quickly failed! I moved on to capsules and soon realised I had stumbled onto something genuinely effective.
After testing the early formulations on myself and a few close friends, the demand was clear. I opened a small Facebook group and began offering free CBD to the masses.
The response was overwhelming. Suddenly, I was facing a flood of orders and multiple complex questions that I simply didn’t have the knowledge to answer. With free orders flying in, and me hand-delivering and making products virtually to order by hand, I realised I was seriously out of my depth. It was pure chaos.
This crisis point forced me to double down on research. I released the first batch of our quality oils, but we still had no branding—labels were hand-written, and the operation was completely frantic.
Finding Confidence and Cementing Our Future in CBD Durham
The breakthrough came when a customer, a graphic designer, loved the product so much that he offered to help with branding in exchange for free CBD. This gave us our first professional look!
But the real transformation came next. I signed up for a Diploma in Medical Cannabis and was proud to pass with a distinction. Now, I felt educated, confident, and deeply knowledgeable, understanding not just CBD, but all 113 known cannabinoids inside and out. It was this deep, evidence-based expertise that truly defined the future of CBD by Better Days.
From that point, I built the website and began releasing more products, creating the comprehensive range you see today. There was no funding, no capital, only sheer grit. Everything that came in went straight back into the business—and it still does. I’ve worked 7 days a week, 365 days a year, to build the brand we are today and bring reliable CBD Durham products to the community.
